But have stayed in them in other areas too.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Karen and Steve
(Our Blog) RVing: Small House... I've only taken distant photo's of it before!

We visited Fort Clatsop in the summer prior to their expected large festivities of the 200 year celebration of Lewis and Clark's adventure west. I was amazed to learn (or perhaps finally absorb) their young age! We thoroughly enjoyed the docents presentations, but I'm wondering if they were present for you in the winter? Did you happen to notice how small the furnishings were in the quarters? The beds were similar in size to cribs currently. Our society has grown!

And we've also missed the carousel in Seaside! I think we've been there more than twice!!! We need to become more absorbant!

These comments are presented to you from my less charming 70's ranch style home..... ;)meowmommahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01209824648988317879noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6915357815051575646.post-52110761717785759812012-03-05T05:56:02.296-08:002012-03-05T05:56:02.296-08:00I can see I would absolutely love Astoria. We did too. We also visited the salt works where they recovered salt from sea water. It was a small outdoor exhibit in Astoria but provided a lot of information on the work involved in the process. I think I am glad I can explore in an RV!!Donna Khttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06161069942110860372noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6915357815051575646.post-59198599902860600922012-03-04T19:17:40.229-08:002012-03-04T19:17:40.229-08:00Oh, also want to add, the 1st time i went to Ft Cl...Oh, also want to add, the 1st time i went to Ft Clatsop it was pouring. I could just feel what those men felt, in the rain, in that adequate, but sparse place for the long winter months. They say over and over again in the journals, that it was "dreary, raining again" Oh, the best of Oregon :)Luci & Loreehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05532319517164921110noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6915357815051575646.post-85226387848048691072012-03-04T19:15:01.078-08:002012-03-04T19:15:01.078-08:00Had a friend from Astoria that was Norwegian, if u...Had a friend from Astoria that was Norwegian, if u go east on the road to Portland, there are TWO bakeries, one on the left and one on the right.. of Scandinavian origin & let me tell u they are pretty darn wonderful!! The fishermen would take bags of big chunks of homemade cinammon toast (hard) with them and knaw on it all day with their coffee, Simple but really good!!Luci & Loreehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05532319517164921110noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6915357815051575646.post-91794303255630155752012-03-04T18:30:57.472-08:002012-03-04T18:30:57.472-08:00I have read "windy and rainy" in blogs f...I have read "windy and rainy" in blogs from all across the county im the past couple of days. Same thing here in Central Florida.

Love the tidbits that Astoria was the first "white" settlement and that Sacagawea was along to prove they came in peace. Maybe so but peace was short lived once they opened up the "manifest destiny".

I'm from Charlottesville, home of Jefferson and Lewis.Sherryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00328866430156879312noreply@blogger.com
