No more google +comments

Not sure what this will look like.  Using the blogger version to write the post.  Ack.  Wanted to give a heads up that I have disabled Google Plus comments on the blog.  I archived all the old comments, so I can enjoy them, but they are gone forever from the blog posts.  Figured I didn't want to wait until April 2 for Google to do it for me.  Just an FYI.  Now, if you make a comment, you won't have to be a google user to do it.  Of course, who knows what that means for spam.  Ack again.

  1. I can at least make a comment on my own blog, and if you still have something to say about anything in the past, I am sure you could still comment, just not as a google user.

  2. Sue, they seem to be replacing it with google sign in so maybe things will work out. I use google recaptcha plugin to prevent spam which seems to help a lot.
I'm using google to sign in for this comment so something is still working. :O)It's a drop down under this comment box just for your info.

    1. Thank you, Bob. I hadn't disabled the google sign in request until now, and immediately starting receiving spam. I despise the captcha thing, so enabled comment mmoderation. We will see how that works.

    2. I don't like it either but I hate spam more. Without it the robot spam guys get in are a bitch to deal with as there is lots of deleting. With it anyone leaving spam have to solve it so there are very few. The google sign in is still below this but no google plus, but there is a google sign in still along with a few other ones.
      Good luck.

  3. I never cared much for that Google + stuff years ago so stayed right out of it. I noticed in Blogger settings I have 'Users With Google Accounts' checked. If I were to click 'Anonymous' I would be immediately swamped with spam. Luckily I get very little spam. And I say again, nice to see you back in the old Blogland neighborhood:))

    1. Thank you. Al, I have been around but not in quite the same way I guess. It makes a big difference when we are traveling.

  4. The only downside to moderation these days is that the email notification to the blog owner doesn’t work anymore, so you have to remember to go into your dashboard to moderate the comments. Re: what Bob said ... commenting with a Google sign-in has always been part of the regular commenting system ... if you do so, your name and profile photo shows, if not then you might show up as Anonymous or something like that. Google+ commenting was different. I disconnected my blogs from my Google+ for profile purposes, so it will be interesting to see if I need to add a photo again to my Goggle profile.

    1. Well, thank you, Erin. I was wondering where everyone went and when I went to the page there were a bunch of comments awaiting moderation. I did check the spot that requires a google account so hopefully that will at least limit some of the spam

I love your comments, they add so much, but to avoid ridiculous amounts of spam, I will have to moderate comments.
